Located approximately two hours' drive from Adelaide, Port Hughes is a quaint and charming coastal town on the Yorke Peninsula. Its beaches are some of the most pristine in the state, and its long jetty is well-renowned for fishing blue swimmer crabs, garfish, tommies and squid. For golfing enthusiasts, playing a round of golf at its Dunes golf course, designed by the legendary Greg Norman, is a must.

Port Hughes has a general store with essential supplies, plus a tavern next door, both not far from the beach. On the foreshore itself, there are picnic and barbecue facilities as well as a playground for the kids. Other services such as a bank, post office, supermarket and chemist can be found at Moonta, which is literally just a few minutes' drive away.

With regards to accommodation, there are quite a few to choose from. We chose to stay in a self-contained two-bedroom holiday unit at the Port Hughes Tourist Park. You can read more about it here . A wide range of holiday homes, suiting all budgets, are also available.

While you're in Port Hughes, be sure to take a stroll along the ever-popular South Beach and watch the sun go down. Or, from the jetty, try your luck at catching something for dinner. And, if you still have some time to spare, head over to the nearby Moonta Mines state heritage area to explore a collection of 19th-century mining structures.
