Port Germein is a seaside town about 15 kilometres north of Port Pirie and 219 kilometres north of Adelaide. It appears to be an attractive spot to stop during a holiday or on a road trip.

Port Germein offers a children's playground, public conveniences and an extensive beachfront. There is a historic hotel which still serves food and drink, small convenience store, police station, caravan park and coffee shop.

The area along the esplanade is decorated with historic and modern items of interest. There is a large shelter shed (the former goods shed) and remains of an old sea clock and lighthouse. Historic buildings within the township include the former bank, two churches and the former school.

The Port Germein jetty is rumoured to be the longest in the southern hemisphere. The jetty was built in 1881 and reaches out across sand and shallow water into the ocean to allow boats to be loaded with grain. Port Germain was an important transport hub for the area until the railway was put through and diverted transport.

Port Germein is still a popular site for fishermen, holiday makers and catching the blue swimmer crab. Being only 15 km out of Port Pirie, holidaymakers can shop in Port Pirie at their convenience, and yet enjoy the quiet beach lifestyle offered at the much smaller town.
