Pork Barrel Café is centrally located in the Parliamentary Triangle, opposite the Old Parliament House Rose Gardens. The Café itself is also set next to its own large rose gardens, so every window in the café looks out to the beautiful rose beds. Although they were not in bloom for our visit, the gardens are a scenic view to look onto and create a relaxed atmosphere in this charming café.

The café is built in a round pergola, so the seating inside follows the curve of the building so you can choose your outlook. There are also three outside seating areas looking out onto different views and plenty of tables for two or larger groups if needed.

Another highlight of this café is the huge mural you see as you walk in. The lady behind the counter explained that they have street artists come in and paint on four of their walls and then diners can vote (by putting a casino chip in a vase) for their favourite. The artworks are then changed accordingly. It doesn't matter where you sit within the café, you are able to appreciate the street art on the surrounding walls.

Pork Barrel Café is a popular café for local workers and those who have discovered the oasis whilst walking between landmarks within the Parliamentary Triangle. My daughter and I were warmly welcomed by the lady behind the counter and she explained the delicious pastries and bakery items she had on offer.

As we were there for morning tea, we chose the Carrot Cake (which was presented with strawberry coulis swirls on the plate) and the Blueberry and Custard Danish to both share - although the Danish was so good I would happily enjoy that by myself!

Pork Barrel Café have a Brunch Menu, Lunch Menu (with a large variety of pizzas), Specials board and display cabinet with cold sandwiches and cakes to choose from. They also have an extensive beer and wine menu to enjoy with a leisurely long lunch whilst looking out onto the gardens.

On a Friday evening they offer dinner between 5pm - 8pm (at the time of writing), however check their website before you go for details and weekly online specials.

This café has a relaxed and inviting atmosphere. With sun streaming in, large windows, rose garden view, great coffee and delicious baked goods, my daughter and I enjoyed our visit for morning tea. Next time we visit it will be to try out the delicious sounding pizzas for lunch with friends or family. The Kids Menu looks on the pricey side, however the pizza selection will easily fit the bill.

This centrally located café is ideal if you need to recharge your batteries whilst walking between the Old Parliament House Rose Gardens and down to Lake Burley Griffin.

With beautiful Spring weather now at our door, Pork Barrel Café is an enjoyable rest stop whilst exploring this interesting and ever-changing city.
