Porch Sessions Adelaide is a delightfully unique way to spend a balmy summer Sunday night with friends. I can't think of a better way to spend an evening than sitting in a backyard, listening to the tunes of some local and interstate headline musicians while indulging in some world class South Australian grown and produced food, wine and coffee.
Doesn't it sound just fabulous? Well, it is. It really is. My evening as a 'porchie' was so enjoyable, so relaxed and so friendly that I can't wait to go again.
Those who are lucky enough to snag a ticket to one of these amazing events can tell you just how good the Sessions are. Porch Sessions have a huge following; tickets sell out incredibly fast once they are released. Porch Sessions founder Sharni Honor told me that tickets generally sell out in 12 minutes!

Porch Session tickets are in very limited supply and have a high demand. What makes them so hard to get is due to the size of the venues themselves. Your everyday suburban front yard has only just so much room before the lawns are maxxed out with bean bags, picnic blankets and bums on the ground.
When we walked in the gate, the vintage inspired ornaments and the stunning garden styling were the first things we saw - fairy lights through the trees, colourful cushions and Turkish rugs spread over the lawns, a beautiful crocheted tee-pee, crocheted and muted coloured bunting and even a crocheted gazebo. It was all so beautiful. The garden decorations were so welcoming and charming.
There were taste tempting choices of food and drinks on offer - there was something there for everyone. The smells of fresh coffee and burgers wafted over the garden. Add great music, the chatter and laughter of friends on the lawn and you have a winning combination for a seriously superb night out.
Walking in took me straight back to the summers of the 70's. I was reminded of my childhood summers where the hot and still summer nights saw all of the doors and windows of the houses in the street thrown open to cool the houses down and let the breeze blow through. Folks from next door and up the road would all gather on a front lawn and talk and play and listen to their vinyl records on their record players. Neighbours were not just people who lived next to each other, they were friends who knew each others names. They also loved to hang out with each other. Porch Sessions is like that. Just like my summers of the 60's and 70's. Friends hanging out, sitting around and spending a couple of hours having a relaxed but most memorable night in the outdoors. In the suburban outdoors. It was just magic.
For those who were hoping to keep the Sessions a secret from the rest of us, well - oopsies - sorry! The word is out and I can see people all over Adelaide scrambling to get tickets to these Sessions each summer for years to come.
The 2016/2017 Summer season is Porch Sessions fourth. Their three previous seasons were completely sold out and this season is on track to do the same.
Each summer there are 8 different Porch Sessions. Season passes are available for those who wish to experience everything on offer. Season Passes also sell out quickly and the allocation has been exhausted for 2016/2017 already. But, on the bright side - there's always next year!
The Porch Session I went to was in Hawthorn; a beautiful suburb that have streets lined with blue flowering jacaranda trees at the moment. A Porch Session can pop up in any suburb though - that's part of the fun!
Our Sunday night was warm, clear and still. The line up was excellent - we were in for a real treat. The line up for the night was : Son Little, Emilee South and Aidan Jazzy Jones. They were brilliant and the crowd loved them. We settled in with something to eat and drink, grabbed a bean bag and chilled out on the porch and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves.
Each Porch Session is held in a different location and details are emailed to ticket holders a week or so prior to the event. The Porch Sessions crew do all the setting up and packing down with minimal fuss. The venue home owner has a relaxed night of sitting on their own front porch and enjoying the show! Sharni said that fans are now volunteering their yards for events - if you think you have a suitable yard for a Session, then get in touch!
Subscribe to Porch Sessions and keep up to date with all of the upcoming Sessions. Details of each session are announced on their Facebook page and also sent to subscribers. Tickets are reasonably priced at just $27 plus booking fee and are red hot once they go on sale.
