It is Christmas and all the buzz words for popular toys are the ones that parents take the time to seek out and find before the Christmas rush begins.

A Christmas Wish

The trick is to find the toys or gifts in time for Christmas and to find a spot to store these bundles, well before little ones can discover them. Then you have to take the time to carefully wrap and place them delicately under the tree.

There is nothing more fun than watching the joy on a child's face as they shake, touch and feel their presents and their delightful giggles as much loved gifts are opened.

I might add, gifts do not have to be expensive. A lilo for the beach or a blow up glove for waving at the Cricket that summer, whether at the game or not, is a joy to receive. It is the fun encapsulated in the present that is the joy.

The Princess and the Frog Doll, Princess Tiana.

Both the Princess and the Frog dolls and the traditional Barbie dolls are apparently popular this year. Both are within most budgets for giving, with Barbie being slightly more expensive at $29.95. There are also great cloth baby dolls and accessories too.

Barbie Styles.

Sydney Barbie.

So, don't despair if the Christmas budget is low, there is always something fun that can be found to fill a spot under the tree.

Pictionary and Brainy Breaks, which is a combination of 200 mini games and puzzles, are both gifts that Toyworld say are selling well this year. Pictionary being an all-round favourite.

Brainy Breaks

The Bubble Sword is one of my favourites. Available at Starfish Kids in Mt Martha, it is, to me, one of the biggest bubble making machines ever. The cost being $16.95 for giggles and big eyed amazement.

Grass Green Tip Truck

Kido Go Car with handle $19.95
Go Car with handle $19.95

These minimalistic tiny trucks and cars are smooth and gentle vehicles and I immediately thought of them in a modern minimalistic home. They are stylish, without bits that can be sucked, chewed or swallowed and are brilliantly priced (also from Starfish Kids).

Tiger Tribe Box Set Dolls House, Beach Villa and Plane, Train or Car.

The Kido brand is Melbourne designed and the gifts and toys are just a joy. The Tiger Tribe Box sets are ideal for the family that travels, and with these wonderful organic wood toys packing easily into their designer box, they are ready to go anywhere.

Lego and Starwars

Lego is always popular with Starwars Lego all the rage and the old fashioned Lego Planes and Buildings still everlasting fun.

There are all types of animal, mythological and historical toy figures that seem to delight many age groups, with dinosaurs and ancient civilisations among some of these imaginative collectable toys. One of the major brands of these creatures is Schleich. Other action figures include Transformers or there are soft toys of all types and sizes, including the wonderful Elmo, which will delight all age groups.

Experiments and Science toys

Toyworld also has all those wonderful science toys that can be built, grown, created and experimented with. If this is your type of thing, you might find that Australian Geographic has a few more young scientist toys and experiments to delight the budding professor.

Ten Blue Wrens and all that Wattle.

My choice of reading for this year would include the Ten Blue Wrens and all that Wattle counting book by Elizabeth Honey and Oceanology. Both have vivid imagery, each is unique in style and story. Oceanology is a bit more grown up, but has a wonderfully descriptive story based on 20 Thousand Leagues under the Sea and the story of a man who many say created that mythological voyage.

There are so many wonderful gifts for children at Christmas from the traditional to the modern, the organic to futuristic. Sports equipment, board games, boys cars and arty things too. I'm told Aqua Sand is popular as are a sticker type set for girls.

For those with everything or with big hearts, you can always add a charity present, sponsor a child or endangered species.

There are so many things to help create a magical Christmas.

Most of the gifts listed are reasonably priced.

Add a little tinsel, some laughter and a few Christmas Carols to create a Merry Christmas.
