I'm a beginning writer with a Brisbane Bucket-list and a desire to see it all and report back.

Romance on the River
At the recommendation of a friend the hubby and I placed a reservation for a picnic dinner at Popolo Italian Kitchen and Bar in Southbank. We didn't even realise that packaged picnic baskets were a thing, but now we have experienced one, we will definitely be enjoying a few more in the future.

A yummy picnic basket pre-packaged for you.

When we arrived to the charming River Quay we waltzed straight into Popolo and were greeted by a lovely waitress who swiftly took our order. Whilst the picnic baskets do have standard items, you do need to specify which pizza and drinks you wish enjoy. Within minutes we were handed a couple blankets and were directed down to the grassy patch right in front of the Brisbane River.

Here is the delicious spread on offer inside the basket.

As it was a Monday night, we had the whole waterfront to ourselves and chose to get cosy under one of the trees and watch the water splashing about. We had just snuggled up under one of the blankets when our basket appeared from behind us.

My first delicious bite of a Popolo's arancini ball.

I must admit we were a bit lazy with our basket choice, opting for the cheapest one, Picnic per due, which worked out in our favour as it was filled to the brim with so many goodies we were never going to be able to finish all by ourselves. I immediately jumped on the arancini balls which are without-a-doubt my favourite savoury foods in the world and was delighted to find these were some of the most delicious I've had in a long time. While I was munching away on my arancini my hubby was devouring the antipasto spread.

Pizza from Popolo

After consuming the first two courses, we began on our delicious Parma pizza and washed it all down with our favourite soft drinks. Do know, however, that the lovely grass patch, perfectly designed for picnics, is also licensed for BYO, so grab a bottle of wine to complement your delicious picnic spread.

After nibbling away for close to an hour, we were able to just lie back and take in the stunning lights across the river. I actually don't think we have had a more romantic date in the past. This should definitely be on the top of your romantic to-do list.
