Winter has arrived and you're looking for something a little bit different to entertain the kids over the winter school holidays. Sydney's temperate climate doesn't provide too many opportunities for true winter sports but this winter ice rinks are popping up around Sydney at some very unlikely spots. So get the kids out from behind their computers and get them pulling on some skates instead, as well as enjoying the kind of wintry activities that people in other parts of the world take for granted.
Parramatta Winterlight Ice Rink
The Parramatta Winterlight Festival will bring all the fun of an alpine village to Parramatta these winter school holidays, and its crowning glory is the Parramatta Winterlight Ice Rink

When: From Friday 27th June to Sunday 13th July 2014. 10am to 8.45pm Sunday to Thursday, 10am to 9.45pm Friday and Saturday.
Where: Prince Alfred Park, corner of Church and Victoria Roads
Cost: Ranges from $10 for children under five (who must be accompanied by a paying adult skater) to $20 for adults and $58 for a family package (4 skaters). All ticket prices include skate hire. You can also hire learn to skate penguins for $8.
Tickets: Can be purchased online here or at the rink if the session is not fully booked in advance. Online booking is recommended and does not attract any fees.
The famous Bondi Winter Magic Festival provides something unique - the Bondi Winter Magic Ice Rink, Australia's only beachside ice skating rink. Forget the sand and surf and go for cooler pleasures instead.

When: From Friday 13th June to Sunday 13th July 2014. From 13 June – 27 June opening hours are 12pm to 10pm Monday to Friday and 10am to 10pm on weekends. From 28 June – 13 July opening hours are 10am to 10pm every day.
Where: Tumbalong Park, Darling Harbour.
Cost: Ranges from $14 weekdays for children aged 4 to 12 to $26 for adults on weeknights. There are also family and couples packages as well as packagess for gluhwein and skating or hot chocolate and skating. All tickets include skate hire.
