There's a new community garden coming to town on October the 12th. I mean right into the centre of town!

The Pop Up Patch is a collaboration between Fed Square and the Little Veggie Patch Co.

Little Veggie Patch are supplying 176 veggie crates, each filled with their special no-dig garden mixture. Fed Square is supplying the space.

Each crate will act as a garden bed and is about 1.2m x 1.2m x 70 cm. They can be leased (in the same way a bed in a regular community garden can be) by individuals. It costs $3.50 per day, about the same as a coffee.

The urban garden will be well secured, with staff present, and willing to help you, 8 hours a day. Subscribers will be able to enter through the locked gate while the garden is unmanned, from 6am until 10pm.

Plenty of time no matter how hectic your day job is. In fact, due to the super central location, (near the car pack at the back of Fed Square) you can pop down and do a spot of gardening during your lunch break.

The Pop Up Patch will be entirely organic, so don't bring in any chemicals. It's part of Fed Square's environmental initiatives that should see it become entirely carbon neutral in 2013.

As it's name implies, this garden is a 'Pop Up', and it will be popping down again in October next year. This is an exciting opportunity to be involved in the heart of Melbourne.

Early subscribers are in for some extra goodies, like the Little Veggie Patch Co. book, seedlings and seed packs, gloves, and more.
