From 14 February 2023 until 4 June 2023, Home of the Arts (HOTA) will host the provocative and imaginative 'Pop Masters: Art from the Mugrabi Collection, New York,' exhibition. The exhibition features the works of renowned artists Andy Warhol, Keith Haring and Jean - Michel Basquiat from the private collection of Jose Mugrabi in New York, and features over 40 works never before seen in Australia.

ABOUT THE ARTISTS
Andy Warhol
One of the most significant contributors to the Pop Art movement and well-known for the screen printed image of Campbell Soup cans and Coca-Cola bottles, famed portraits of artistic, social and political figures such as actress Marilyn Monroe and Chairman Mao, Andy Warhol was an American born visual artist who rose to fame in the 1960s.

As if foreshadowing the social media and reality television overlay in today's society and fleeting fame, it was Warhol who is believed to have once said, [i]"In the future, everyone will be world-famous for 15 minutes." In his quest to capture fame, he also made the observation that "if everyone is beautiful then nobody is"%%.

Warhol created his works in his studios in New York known as "The Factory" named after the endless stream of visitors (friends, fellow artists and celebrities) who frequently called into the studio. Andy Warhol died in 1987.

Keith Haring
American artist Keith Haring had his beginnings in the graffiti art subculture and was strongly influenced by public art. He is well known for his New York "subway drawings" with this public transportation space being used as what he described as his laboratory for experimenting with ideas.

Some of Haring's signature images were repeated designs incorporated into multiple art pieces, including a barking dog, giant hearts, flying saucers, people with TV sets for heads, and his trademark "radiant baby" - crawling baby encircled with lines.

Keith Haring died of AIDS-related complications at the age of 31 on February 16, 1990. Prior to his death, he established the Keith Haring Foundation which supports not-for-profit organizations that assist children, as well as organizations involved in education, prevention, and care related to AIDS.

Jean-Michel Basquiat
Jean Michel Basquait was a young New York graffiti artist. With a cultural heritage of Puerto Rico and Haiti, his works are considered neo-impressionist and drew on what some described as a primitive style and regularly featured skulls, masks and crowns. One critic said that his works screamed of revolutionary intentions.

Jean Michel is known for combining words, pictures and abstract artwork in his paintings. Basquiat died at the age of 27 of a heroin overdose in New York.

Alongside the main exhibition, there will also be additional immersive entertainment and events including cinema, digital, dance, educators programs for schools, talks and ideas, theatre, festival and series, family entertainment, gigs and, comedy.

Tickets to the Pop Art Exhibition are $35. Family (2 adults and 2 children) and Groups of 10 or more qualify for a discount.

Don't miss the opportunity to view the works of these influential artists during the limited exhibition this summer.

HOTA is located on a 17-hectare site at Evandale at 135 Bundall Rd, Surfers Paradise Queensland.
