Small and quirky but oh, so good
Markets are one of those quirky things in life that all have their own personality. They come in all shapes and sizes, but all have their own sense of self and their own little bit of uniqueness. The POP Market located in the charming 150 year old Hahndorf Memorial Institute, 59 Mt Barker Road, Hahndorf is one of those markets that is like a small romantic, quirky cafe where you sit at the back table and sip some of the best coffee you have had in your life.
The POP Market seeks to support local artisans, crafters and creators therefore you will find goods and produce that is a little different from the Main Street goods. If you are looking for something a little unusual for Christmas presents and stocking fillers, pop along to the POP Market in the coming months.
Each market has up to 20 stalls with many stalls such as Chatterbox City and Goodies Kitchen Garden being at the market regularly. In September 2017, Goodies Kitchen Garden won a bronze award in the Australian Marmalade Awards. Why not pop along and have a chat (and a tasting) with the fabulous artisan in residence. Other stalls which you may find are The Gourmet Entertainer and Craft Your World, and many more.
The market is held on the second and third Sunday of each month from 11.30 am to 5 pm and because the market is indoors, you can wander in absolute comfort whatever the weather; rain, hail or shine. Entry is free.
Parking in Hahndorf is simple although it can be a little busy at peak times. On street parking is available either in Main Street or on side streets or there is a car park at one end of town if you don't mind a short walk. My advice is come early and take the opportunity to stroll along the historic main street of Australia's oldest surviving German settlement.
