It can be rather counterintuitive treating the game of pool as a structured hobby, when a brief visit to any neighborhood pub in Sydney will be happy to provide a casual pick-up game.

The Campbelltown Catholic Club has six full-sized tables, isolated by glass doors. The facilities make provision not only for pool balls but also billiard and snooker. In Sydney's south, Riverwood Legion and Community Club offers pool tables for $2 per person.

In Coogee, Eight Ball Pool and Cafe offers patrons the opportunity to enjoy a round of pool with a cappuccino. The Cafe is conveniently located within striking distance of the water, and lying close to Goldstein Memorial Reserve.

In Sydney's CBD, there are various choices for people interested in playing a round of pool. On George Street, the Albion Hotel has various pool tables for public use. Also on George Street, are the pool tables in Jacksons on George and Cheers Bar.

On Pitt Street, the NSW Leagues' Club has a number of pool facilities, and is open every day, between the hours of 10am to 10pm weekdays, with slightly longer operating hours on Friday and Saturday.
