The time honored sport of Polo combines pretty dresses, champagne picnics, fresh cut grass and athleticism on horseback. What a day out! In Sydney you can learn to play yourself or go along to one of the games for a picnic.

The Sydney Polo Country Club is located between Richmond and Windsor on the Hawkesbury River approximately an hour and a half drive from central Sydney.

During the Spring and Summer Polo Seasons polo tournaments are held each weekend at the club or in the surrounding district. Most tournaments welcome spectators and are free to attend. Just turn up with a picnic and grab a patch of grass for the day.

The 3 largest NSW Polo Association tournaments are the Easter International held in March/April, the Countess of Dudley Cup held at the end of May and the Hector King Trophy in Oct/Nov. These are held at the club and are excellent days out. Entry is $15 on these days.

Want to play rather than watch? In addition to giving the spectators a good show, the Sydney Polo Club offers polo coaching and riding clinics all year round with private and group lessons.

In addition, the Riverlands Polo Club which is also located Richmond, offer coaching clinics for beginners. Riverlands holds 3 levels of training clinics throughout the year. Beginners clinics run over both days of the weekend from 9:30am to 2:00pm and cost (the rather large sum of) $800 though that includes your horses, equipment, lunch and refreshments on both days.
