Appropriately named Pollen after the beautiful botanical gardens where it's located, Pollen is a lovely cafe! Especially after you have worked up an appetite walking around and exploring the massive gardens.
The cafe, which is surrounded by these massive gardens, offers seating both inside and outside on the deck enjoying nature! The cafe decor is blue and white and has a real country cafe feel which is very comfortable and welcoming. This isn't surprising since the owner Tracy Keeley also runs Booksplate at the National Library of Australia and she knows how to utilise the cafe's prime location in the National Botanic Gardens.
Pollen (only open for Breakfast and lunch) offers an all-day breakfast and then a lunch menu from 12pm. There is a reasonable amount of options available, such as green brekky bowl, chilli scrambled eggs, pulled pork tacos and poke bowl. Yet there are not too many options that it becomes overwhelming for people who can't decide what they want like me.
On this particular visit, I ended up going with my old favourite smashed avocado on toast! I find that I am never disappointed with the combination of crunchy sourdough bread and smooth avocado. However, at Pollen beetroot hummus and balsamic vinegar were added to the classic combination, and I loved it!
With a prime location, delicious food, and good service, Pollen certainly has the combination right for a great cafe!
