A forecast of 20 degrees had me hopeful for some sun after too many weeks of doom and gloom. While it is perfect weather for drinking a coffee, I find a bright sunny day elevates my mood more than a cup of caffeine.

Walking down King William Road I cam across a cool looking A-Frame out front a shop with glass/white doors (The A-Frame looked as if a lumberjack had cut down a pine and wrestled it into it's glorious advertising shape). Peering inside I noticed a La Marzocco Strada MP on the bench (the MP stands for Manual Paddle - no button on this baby). As there are only 4 or so of these high end coffee machines in the state I knew that those who dwell within must be serious about their coffee, so I ventured in.

A décor that can only be described as cool and crisp, the feeling of being home instantly struck me. Welcomed by a lovely lady as I walked through the door I was told to sit anywhere and someone would be with me shortly with a menu or to take an order.

The Lady, who had a smile that could warn ships to steer clear of rocks, was in actuality the owner. Her name is Jyoti (it took me a while to wrap my head around the spelling) and she cooks all of the food on site, by herself. Oh - and it is all vegetarian.

I mention this because I am anything but a vegetarian. Not that I have anything against those who are (and I admire their moral stance for it) but I am a person who enjoys his flavours. My theory is why limit oneself to only a certain type of food and therefore flavours. After tasting the food at Pollen185, I am happy to point out that this way of thinking is wrong.

I grabbed the zucchini pasta dish - spaghetti thick strips of zucchini with a home made sauce full of veggies and yum. Seriously, it was amazing.

But back to the reason I ventured into Pollen 185 - the coffee. barista Jack (who bares an uncanny resemblance to Charlie Pickering) is a very relaxed chap who talked me through the extraction process of the coffee. Using coffee from local coffee roaster Goat Candy, Jack explained how he is able to curb the acidity of the light roasted blend to enhance the sweetness thanks to the La Marzocco's pressure profiling capabilities. The result was fantastic - an incredibly sweet piccolo latte with a honey noughart after-taste that had me lining up for more. The espresso was short and viscous with hints of berries and a very clean finish - a testimate to the roast and the barista.

I left happily that I had found two things at Pollen185 - another place to grab a fantastic coffee, and a new found love for the amazing flavours vegetarian food can bring.
