Poke the Bear is a cute bear themed cafe which has recently opened in Northcote, Mitchell St, just tucked around the corner from High Street.

From the vibrant exterior to the lush interior, the texture, colour and plant surroundings give you a sense of being somewhere in the tropical jungle of Asia. The cafe has a great vibe and it's so warm and cosy. They even provide colourful crotchet blankets to make you feel right at home!

As a regular here now, I look forward to their breakfast menu. One of my favourite dishes is the Grizzly Bowl with acai, fresh chopped banana, coconut water topped with chia seed, goji berry, toasted coconut.

Everything is bear themed and just love the little subtle touches such as the paper quotes which come out with any tea or coffee order - this becomes a great talking point or inspiration for the day! A bit like the Chinese fortune cookies.

The kid's menu is clever as its hidden inside the cover of up cycled Little Golden books. Children can order from the Cubs menu. My sister and two nephews consider themselves as big bears, so they ordered the Ham & Cheese Toastie with chips and the French toast with Ice Cream and maple syrup! Max has a sweet tooth even when it comes to lunch. He wanted to scoop up the honey from the bear glass jar, so instead I convinced him to share one of their delicious chocolatey gluten free brownies. It's the best one I've had so far - its soft, gooey and moist. I'll be back for more as I'm addicted now!

Ryan's the owner is a fabulous host making everyone feel welcome, especially kids. Chill out to the 80's music, whilst eating some yummy food, whether it's delicious tacos, moreish burgers or nachos. Poke the Bear certainly ticks all the boxes!
