Escaping the Perth summer heat can be difficult but the beautiful Point Walter Reserve on the Swan River offers an alternative to avoid the worst of it.
There is something for the whole family at Point Walter. Boat enthusiasts can launch their vessels from the boat ramp while others may prefer to await their return at Walter's River Café (For a review on this café, click here). If a café is not quite your style, right next door is a small takeaway shop offering all the luxuries from fish and chips through to ice blocks and milkshakes, although location has inflated prices somewhat.
It is best not to forget the picnic rug or chairs as you can lounge around underneath the beautiful shady trees while you watch the children play in the river and sand. Walks along the river's edge around here are stunning, one spot even taking you out along a sand bar to make you feel at one with the river without the need to even get your feet wet.
The children's playground is interesting for all ages and with lots of different activities in the playground, even the busiest of days go unnoticed.
All facilities are located here including BBQs, toilets and showers. The best part about the reserve is that it is entertaining for the kids and adults alike while also being free. Being so close to the golf course, it becomes a good place to meet up with the family after a game.
It is worth taking your bike along as paths go through here that follow the entire Swan River.
Parking can sometimes be difficult so it is worth arriving early.
Point Walter Reserve can be found off Honour Ave or Burke Dr, Bicton, close to Canning Hwy.
