Point Vernon Esplanade Walk

Point Vernon Esplanade Walk

The spacious Point Vernon - brimming with coastal birdlife and with next to no commerce, with lovely wide flat streets - has an esplanade ideal for a coastal nature walk. Due to the exercise, the good food and coffee at the nearby Brew & View Café and plenty of relaxation and scenery, this hike remains a point of immense satisfaction for the author. As Point Vernon is a little less frequented, aside from the hike, I've included some information on visiting this neat suburb on either a stay or a day trip from other Hervey Bay suburbs.

Point Vernon is far more appealing a prospect than what it can seem at face value. In terms of that appeal - a huge advantage for Point Vernon is the elevation - it's got flatness for walking or cycling but is up a bit on the rocks hence the vistas, the greens, the azures, of the water, with lots of gum trees and palms - all contributed to give an excellent impression.

Regarding the walk itself, The Esplanade walking track is in good condition - it was nice to see such a great track and it was very consistent throughout the walk with the photo below. From the vantage points in the parkland beside the walking track, there are views as far as Fraser Island - very good ones in fact, but the cloud cover created a light that made the walk cooler and more invigorating, yet not as photogenic. However, the cloudiness was a message from the heavens to promote this place in terms of a best-kept secret - a place where the best view is to book in and see (and hear) what a charming piece of paradise it really is.

Due to the calm water, the similar birdlife and the climate Point Vernon reminds me of Tin Can Bay. Accessible by car, plane from Fraser Coast Airport , tilt train with connecting bus from Maryborough and bus services such as Greyhound or Premier Motor Services, Point Vernon is on Hervey Bay at the northern end of the urban area. The Hervey Bay Taxi Service contactable by phone on 131008 is good and has its very own app - especially as Uber is limited with often no cars available for Uber.

Accommodation is fairly limited, due to the space, there are nice caravan parks such as the linked Big4 Hervey Bay and bed and breakfasts rather than resorts because it's more of a lifestyle suburb as opposed to Torquay which is holidays or Urangan which has the marina for whale cruises. It would make an ideal day or half day trip if staying longer in Urangan or Torquay - it does have a slightly slower pace to those areas. It should also be mentioned that dog owners are frequent in the area, I can think of why - ideal for walking dogs in terms of space and non-hilly terrain. It had a difference to the rest of Hervey Bay - one great contrast - with much of that contrast based on a relaxed yet communal feel.
So for an alternative place for a holiday and fine walking or even cycling, why not try Point Vernon for a surprise of a pleasant kind and enjoy plenty of space away from city stresses and listen to the singing birds.**
