Point Leo is just over 1 hour from Melbourne's CBD, which in travelling with kids time is a movie and no toilet stop. Peninsula Link is smooth and gets you there by 7pm after work on a Friday afternoon.

The kids will love Point Leo as it is a place well suited for people of all ages. There are two camping spots at Point Leo and this review focuses on the powered sites that are left as soon as you pass the Ranger's office , sites 1 - 56. This site is quite beautiful with a mixture of European and native trees set on top of a hill. BBQs (you need 20 cent coins) and a children's playground overlook the beach and due to the relative protection this campsite has, it is comfortable even on a 41 degree day. There is also unpowered camp sites on the beach, which are sites 1-11. The ranger is extremely helpful and very knowledgeable.

If you have children still in a pram, you can drive your car to the beach, park and unload. From the campsite, you would walk down a slight incline for approximately 50m. There are also boardwalks and tracks that are pram friendly linking the two sites. A small shop at the entrance will provide you with ice and milk if you run out. For slightly older kids the playground is great, and the beach is quite safe.

Although this beach is not patrolled it is a shallow waterway with small rocky outcrops and a small river entrance as well. Bring shade for the morning, but if you are going to the beach after about 4pm, you may find shade on the beach which is a bonus. Older kids can traverse their way to the surf beach or the boat club. If travelling with grandparents, invite them to the Merricks General Store for a wine tasting.

Camp spot 49 - 51 are directly across from the toilets and showers to help out with those 12am toilet runs and slippery kids getting dressed after baths. All sites at Point Leo are open to campers, but in winter camping is restricted to the powered sites and the foreshore area. You will need to book for Christmas, Easter and long weekends, but will be generally ok to grab a site outside of these peak times. Email or phone beforehand to double check.

If you are hungry, Balnarring is only 10 minutes up the road, with a supermarket, cafes, pharmacists and other generalist stores. And if you get tired of the beautiful sand and surf, you are on the glorious Mornington Peninsula and all the amazing things that your location brings.

Within a 20 minute drive there is great food and wine at Peir 10 and pizza at the Montalto pizzeria. Or perhaps the Ashcombe Maze or Sunny Ridge Strawberry Farm . A large (adult) punnet costs $8.00 and a small (children's) punnet costs $4.00. Accessing the strawberries is not really pram friendly, but you may be able to get close.

Point Leo is a fabulous spot to spend time with your friends and family. Costs for 2 adults and 2 children in peak periods are:
Campsite (powered) $45 / night
Campsite (non powered) $37 / night
