Point Break (2015) - Film Review

Alcon Entertainment's new adrenalin movie 'Point Break' recreates the 1991 movie of the same name that was directed by Kathrine Bigelow and stared Keanu Reeves and Patrick Swayze.

In the new version a rookie FBI agent, Johnny Utah (Luke Bracey) follows a hunch that a string of crimes committed around the world by a team of talented and athletic criminals may be linked to the philosophies of a radical environmental warrior. Utah being a bit of a talented and athletic type himself is able to work out the probable location of the gang's next goings-on and infiltrates the criminal gang under cover leading to an ever more dangerous and dramatic escalation in the adventure.

Actor Edgar Ramirez who plays the role of Bodhi says in an interview with ScreenSlam that the similarity between the old and new movies is the rebellious spirit of the first film. He goes on to say that, "The world has changed a lot in the last 25 years so we couldn't tell the story in an identical way, and that was never the intention. We got inspired by the first one and wanted to re-imagine the story". "The structure is very similar but the stakes are higher, they are different and the circumstances are different as well", he said.

Director 'Ericson Core' says the characters of Bodhi and Utah where inspired partly by the wing suit pilot Jeb Corliss.

The movie shows some truly inspirational scenery and the stunt work and action scenes featuring some of the world's best athletes such as free climber Chris Sharma, surfers Laird Hamilton and Sebastian Zietz and snowboarder Xavier De Le Rue are awesome.

For me I left the movie wondering why they didn't just call it something else as it has little to do with the original movie and the plot has a lot less depth and tension in comparison.

Definitely worth seeing on the big screen for the action and beautiful scenery but doesn't call too strappingly to the brain cells or the imagination.

Showing in 2D and 3D.
