Win a double-pass to the gig
On Friday 15 February, PocketLove will be supported by Bec Laughton and Fat Picnic at the zoo. My dancing shoes are being buffed as you read this, eagerly in anticipation of this gig.
I first came across PocketLove in 2011, performing as part of the Brisbane Festival. I've been a fan ever since, loving their original funk tunes, and enjoying their interpretations of old-school funk and soul tunes they perform at their Friday night Press Club performances. Have a read of my review here, which formed part of my A-Z of Brisbane Live Music series in 2012. PocketLove have been bunkered down recording recently, and this gig will be the launch of their new single I Know Where The Love Is, which is described as a more funky rock / pop than their previous straight-up funk sound.
One of the two acts supporting PocketLove will be Bec Laughton. What can I say about this Qmusic award winning soul / pop powerhouse? She's been very busy, having launched her EP By The Fire in September 2012, supported pop and disco legend Leo Sayer in the same month, played Dusty Springfield in the production of Class of '69 at QPAC in November, and she's just spent some time in New York City for the Independent Music Awards. Wow! Check out her website here.
Fat Picnic are the third band on the bill. Another band I've seen before; I became an instant fan of their funk / reggae / hip-hop / blues style, have a read of my review here.
Tickets are $10 and doors open at 8pm. More info here.
