The upcoming PlettroMano Concert event at St Stephen's Anglican Church in Richmond offers Melbourne music lovers the special opportunity to witness the unique talents of mandolinist Marissa Carroll and classical guitarist Joel Woods.
To be held on Saturday 2nd August at 7.30 pm, this one night only event will see Marissa and Joel perform as a duo. Throughout the evening they will entertain audiences with renditions of music written specifically for the mandolin and classical guitar from the Baroque and Classical periods, including works from their debut self-titled album released in November 2013.
Marissa and Joel formed their unusual liaison - PlettroMano - in 2010 whilst forging two successful careers as soloists.
Marissa, who has played the mandolin since the age 10, has performed in Germany, France and Luxembourg and has acted as concertmaster and featured soloist with the Australasian Mandolin Orchestra and the West Australian Mandolin Orchestra.
She studied with internationally known U.K. mandolinist Alison Stephens at the Dartington International Music Summer School and completed her degree in music at the University of Queensland.
Marissa plays a prized vintage Lyon and Healy mandolin from the early 1920s, a German bowl-back mandolin by Klaus Knorr and a Baroque mandolino by Alex Vervaert.
Joel is a classically trained guitarist who began playing at the age of 11. He successfully completed his Master of Music studies in guitar performance at the Queensland Conservatorium of Music under the tutelage of internationally renown guitarist Julian Byzantine.
In May 2014, Joel was a featured soloist and led the guitar section on the Australia Ensemble's tour of Germany. He currently leads the guitar section of the Queensland Mandolin Orchestra and is the conductor of the Brisbane Mandolin Ensemble.
Joel's guitar was made in the Blue Mountains by luthier Kim Lissarrague in 2010.
This is a rare opportunity to see these celebrated musicians perform together in the grand venue of St Stephen's Anglican Church.
All tickets for this event are priced $25.00, which includes refreshments prior to the concert event.
