For those of you with school-aged children, you may already be aware of a number of initiatives created by the OPAL program, a joint program of Commonwealth, State and Local governments. Launched in 2009, OPAL stands for 'Obesity Prevention and Lifestyle' and one of its main aims is to promote a healthy and active lifestyle to children and their families.
A fun way to participate in OPAL Charles Sturt's program is by entering as a family, in your own leisure time in the 'Playground Amazing Race' which commences on Friday, 13 December 2013 and finishes on Tuesday, 21 January 2014.

OPAL Charles Sturt invites residents in the catchment area to participate by visiting any 5 of the 20 playgrounds within the City of Charles Sturt (list available here) and answering the playground's 'checkpoint question' on the entry form provided eg. at Port Malcolm Reserve (Military Road, Semaphore Park) the checkpoint question is "How many statue birds are on top of the big poles?"
Download the entry form here (one entry per child), complete the sections (which include your rating and any suggestions/feedback for the playground), place entries in any of the specially marked collection boxes at City of Charles Sturt's libraries (choose from Findon, Civic, Hindmarsh, West Lakes or Henley Beach) before Tuesday, 21 January 2014.
All completed entries will go into a prize draw which will take place at OPAL Charles Sturt's Celebration Event for entrants of the Playground Amazing Race on 23 January 2014, between 10am and 11.30am at Collins Reserve (Valetta Road, Kidman Park). Morning tea, face painting and children's activities will be provided.
So get out and enjoy the sun and explore the many playgrounds City of Charles Sturt has to offer.
