This is a very interactive, fun-filled show for toddlers and children up to aged five or six years - we went to see the performance at the North Sydney Leagues Club when Emma Palmer and Teo Gebert were the performers (they rotate the stars in the performance), and our kids had a ball.
All your Play School soft toy favourites make an appearance - Humpty, Jemima, Mika, Big and Little Teds, as well as managing to weave in many of the nursery rhyme standards (albeit adapted) such as Twinkle Twinkle, Baa Baa Black Sheep and Incy Wincy Spider, and not forgetting the familiar Play School standards including the Play School theme song and If you're happy and you know it - amongst others.
Audience participation is encouraged, and kids stand up for many of the numbers to sing, dance, clap, and generally bounce around like hyperactive teens in a moshpit.
The sets are great - there are lots of colourful backdrops all built into a handy large book - whenever they need a new backdrop, they just turn the page - this adds interest and movement to the show, and visually it's very effective.
For the kids, it's a lot of fun because it is so interactive. For the adults - there are a few jokes and references inserted purely for parental amusement, and I couldn't help but admire the amount of energy and zeal Emma and Teo brought to the show.
I came out from the show a little exhausted - it's a VERY noisy show, but that's because it is so interactive and the kids have so much fun.
It's a good length at forty-five minutes, and casual enough that there are no problems walking around during the show if kids needed toilet breaks/ movement from boredom, etc. While I don't think babies will get so much out of the show, there were many babies there accompanying their older siblings to the show, and this seemed to work out fine.
