During January 2014, Melbourne will see pianos in unexpected places throughout the city. For two weeks in January, this art project encourages the public to play and discover your creativity to engage with their urban environment.
The idea of "Play Me, I'm Yours" was created when British artist Luke Jerram visited his local launderette. He saw the same people there each weekend and yet no one talked to one another. He came up with the idea and has placed more than 1000 pianos on the streets of 37 cities across the globe since 2008.
During the two week exhibition more than 20 brightly painted pianos will be placed around the city allowing a complete beginner or a piano virtuoso to pull up a stool and enjoy playing there right on the street.
There will be a special opening night from 6pm on Thursday 9 January where you see, hear and play all the pianos altogether. They will be performed by guest musicians, community performers and YOU.
Street-piano locations and program information maps will be available at the
Arts Centre Melbourne .
The donated pianos have been decorated by local community artists from all over Melbourne and will be out on the streets for anybody to play.
After the Melbourne installation, the pianos will be re-gifted to community groups.
If you are in Melbourne from 9 to 27 January 2014, sit and perform your own masterpiece of music by performing in "Play Me, I'm Yours".
