The significant economic and social contribution that our WA food and beverage industry makes across the State will be celebrated in June 2021 with the return of Plating Up WA.
The month-long annual campaign initiated by the Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development's Buy West Eat Best program features 50 venues celebrating their hero dish. From casual to fine dining, food trucks to wineries, tapas to desserts you can easily find mouth-watering options and price points to suit. The campaign supports WA's food service and hospitality industry which continues to face significant challenges, yet pushes to prosper in spite of the global pandemic.

Plating Up WA is an annual campaign launched in 2018 to support and celebrate the restaurant and foodservice community who champion the diverse and plentiful produce we are blessed with across Western Australia.
The campaign rallies local patrons to book a table with participating venues that are showcasing a hero WA dish that best demonstrates the State's great Winter ingredients.
Breakfast, lunch, dinner or dessert chefs creatively plate up in their support of WA's local producers.
50 Plating Up Venues for 2021
The 50 participating venues this year have received an ingredient register of Buy West Eat Best members to consider in their dish creation. The ingredient register supports and facilitates introductions with members keen to showcase their produce and set to bring attention to new ingredients, artisan producers, uncover a grower or open discussions with suppliers.
The campaign runs for the whole month of June, one of the quietest months of the year.
Deborah Pett, Manager Food Industry Development states, "This campaign ignites conversations with both producers, their staff and consumers, and encourages chefs to highlight where ingredients have been sourced from within their menus to promote the 'buy local' message; while drawing attention to a spectacular range of counter seasonal ingredients available at this time of year.
It's so important to acknowledge the significant contribution that the Western Australian foodservice industry makes to the State's economy. All venues need the support of their local and visiting customer base now more than ever."
Prior to the COVID-19 pandemic, WA's foodservice and hospitality industry employed 80,930 people on average across 7,757 businesses (2018-19). The sector has been significantly impacted over the past 12 months as a result of the pandemic and greater in the regions, many with close alignment and integration with the tourism sector, with destination dining venues impacted across WA.
The food and beverage sector has the ability to generate significant flow-on effects and benefits when compared to other sectors, for example through food tourism and agri-tourism - these impacts are measured by increased income, employment and thriving communities and all contribute to WA's recovery", said Ms Pett.
Plating Up WA will be strongly promoted through social media channels with supporting collateral illustrating the diversity of Western Australian landscapes and dishes reflecting the range of ingredients that venues will be offering.
