Plastica Fantastica is a ridiculous, award-winning one-woman show. It's the story of Nunny, who loves plastic more than her mum and her future husband combined. She lives a life of plastic-wrapped bananas and triple bagged groceries and her dream is to become a top of the line Tupperware lady.

The show is performed and written by Jennifer Anne Laycock and directed by Nicolas Angelosanto, both Brisbane based performers. They each have a Bachelor of Theatre from the University of Southern Queensland, and recently graduated from École Philippe Gaulier, a prestigious French theatre school in Étampes, outside Paris. They create ridiculous comedic shows, characters and installations for Art for Earthlings . Art for Earthlings aims to educate and inspire audiences with environmental education and plenty of laughs. Jennifer won the Short and Sweet Festival in Queensland last year for this show, while Nicolas won Best Director.

The Breakout is a tiny and intimate venue that lets you get up close to the performers. It's perfect for a one-woman show like Plastica Fantastica.

The show begins with an introduction to Nunny and her passion for plastic. Jennifer's riotous facial expressions and body movements mean all eyes are glued to the stage. Her timing is impeccable - the audience is never kept waiting, but rather hanging on every word. The jokes are whimsical and outlandish, so much so that the audience could be forgiven for not realising the show has a message about our over-use of plastic. Emotions range from pathos to humour, to humorous pathos, and back to humour again. The audience becomes invested in Nunny's journey and the seemingly cruel twist of fate which ultimately leads her to her salvation. Personally, my favourite part was the 'What Would Nunny Do?' tote bag; I can definitely see that bag being a hit on the checkout belt at the supermarket.

The music is well timed, while the lighting brings the focus onto Nunny's face at all the right times. Plastica Fantastica is what fringe festivals are all about – funny, honest, intimate and interesting shows featuring generous helpings of over-the-top acting.

Playing at The Breakout at The Mill on Angas Street, Plastica Fantastica is a 45-minute show and tickets are just $20 (concessions apply). Book here NOW as there are just two shows left this Fringe season. If you miss the show this Fringe, hopefully, you'll get the chance to see it soon, as it tours regional high schools around the country with a fun message and warning about over-reliance on plastic (some jokes may be adjusted for younger audiences).
