A wholesome meal awaits
As I drove along Crosby Road in Albion the other day I was surprised to see how much it had changed over the years. I used to catch the bus near Crosby Park during my high school years and it was a pretty quiet street back then. The only notable building was the Mc Donald's at the end of the street. Now there are apartment blocks being built, cars parked on either side of the street and I even discovered a couple of coffee shops as I drove around the side streets.

I decided to stop by Planted Wholefoods Co. to refuel. What attracted me to this place was its shaded courtyard decorated with recycled timber and herb plants along their wooden pallet fence.

They don't have a huge menu, although they do have a display cabinet of various salads and freshly baked yummy creations to choose from. What I love about this place is that all of their ingredients are ethically and organically grown and produced by local suppliers. Lighter options from the menu include the organic fruit toast and coconut jelly panna cotta. Or for something a little more substantial, pick the native kangaroo burger paired with a side of baked sweet potato fries.

Black charcoal waffle.

As it was after 2pm, there wasn't much left in their display cabinet and they had sold out of the kangaroo burger. So I went for their black charcoal waffle, which was topped with coconut ice cream, strawberries, pomegranate syrup, pecan crumb and mint. I was pleasantly surprised when my food came because it looked so beautiful.

Fantastic coffee.

It was scrumptious! Everything was so fresh. The waffle was dense but wonderfully delicious. The acidity of the pomegranet syrup was perfectly balanced with the sweetness from the strawberries and coconut ice cream. The mint highlighted the freshness of this dish with pecans adding a bit of extra crunch bringing the whole thing together. When I tasted all the components together, I was in heaven. So often waffles come drenched in some sort of syrup making it sickly sweet. Well, not this one!

I am so happy that I have discovered another little gem on the north side. Their fantastic coffee, tasty food and friendly service will definitely have me coming back for more.
