Land yourself at this arcade and get your game on
It feels like it's been a long time since I've visited a video game arcade. It's not like I've been avoiding them - there's none around. I've been on the Sunshine Coast about three years now and I've yet to see more than a few shooters and driving games (always so old) bunched together in the corner somewhere.
Welcome to Planet Arcades at the Sunshine Plaza. Prepare to have some fun.
The first thing I noticed outside the various sounds coming from the games and the flashing lights was the size of the place. Unfortunately, it felt pretty small - nothing like the Timezone and Intercity arcades I knew and loved growing up.
Earn enough tickets and you can earn yourself a prize. Plenty to choose from.
Despite it's small size they managed to squeeze a variety of games in. There were four racing consoles set up next to each other so you can challenge your mates, a Terminator Salvation shooter, Doodle Jump (based on the high ranking app) and, my personal favourite, air hockey, in the form of Pacman Smash.
Why not give bowling a go? You can win plenty of tickets.
There were plenty of other games aimed at much younger kids as well. Some of the most popular games I noticed were the ones spitting out tickets. There was a variety of prizes up for offer for anyone willing to collect hundreds or even thousands of tickets. If you've got the skill (and the patience) you should be right. I wasn't good enough to earn many tickets but looks like you can win anything from candy, small toys up to plush items, action figures and more.
It might not look like much when you walk by but I bet you'll find yourself a few dollars down if you step in. It's a welcome addition to the Sunshine Plaza and sure to provide plenty of laughs. It's great for adults and kids alike - get a small group together and head in sometime soon.
