Eating alone is still considered a brave thing to do. So many times it's so easy to feel awkward and uncomfortable sitting there all by yourself.

Although there tons of great places you can't wait to try out and venture out, too, but all the people you know have something else going on.

So this blog is dedicated to all the people who want to go out alone and haven't found the courage yet. I've compiled a list of places that are comfortable to eat at alone and also offer a great restaurant experience.

Canopy

Canopy is a lovely restaurant located on Elizabeth Street with an indoor and outdoor seating area.

I prefer their outdoor area as it has great views of Hyde park and the hectic Sydney life. It's got a modern décor and comes across super stylish. It's open for breakfast, lunch and dinner.

I had passed by it numerous times wanting to go in but since I was walking home solo or had people who didn't want to eat out, I passed up the opportunity to enjoy a meal there. But last Friday I was brave.

I went in for breakfast since I thought less people would be present and I'm so glad I did. They have the most amazing breakfast I've eaten in Sydney yet.

I took a book and my cell phone along to play with in case I felt strange but there was no need for that since a lot of other people had come in solo as well. I felt very comfortable and relaxed, also quite excited to try out their menu.

I tried their blueberry pancakes and they were divine. They were such a good start to the day. I also tried their French toast which was just as good as the ones I get back home (which is a big compliment).

Overall my experience was really good, I had a great meal, felt like I had accomplished a goal and thoroughly enjoyed my meal. So 'Canopy' gets the first spot on my list of places for a solo meal.

If you're ever on your own or bored at home and want to go out especially if it's for breakfast don't miss out on this gem.

Jamie's Italian

While I lived in the UK I wasn't the biggest fan of Jamie's Italian but it grew on me here in Sydney. It's located on Pitt Street close to a lot of the main attractions.

The place usually has long waiting lines if you go on peak hour but as a solo diner you'll be seated fairly quickly.

However I would still advise going on an odd timing just to get that extra personal attention. At this restaurant it all comes down to what you choose from the menu which is what defines your overall experience. Some dishes can make you love the place and others not so much.

I was coming home from a shopping trip and the restaurant just caught my eye and I really wanted to try it out hoping I would change my mind about it which I eventually did.

I'm not a big meat fan and I like to be a vegetarian as often as I can. Although I do understand Jamie Oliver is known for his meat dishes.

I tried the blue swimmer crab risotto which was quite an exotic dish. The flavours were overwhelming and foreign.

I loved the dish but is it something I would eat every day? Probably not however I enjoyed my Solo experience there.

The environment was quite inviting and felt comfortable, most people looked fascinated by their food and it was a pleasant experience.

I did feel that the dishes were overpriced and it wasn't exactly valued well.

Momofuku Seiobo

Forget experience this was an adventure. To be honest I was a bit nervous about this one.

Bad food isn't good while eaten with people, it's even worse while eaten alone. Therefore I really wanted this place to be worth the while.

Also I had been even more adventurous than usual since I had taken a train down to Pyrmont just to discover a new place and maybe try out something new.

I would suggest being seated around the bar as it's the perfect place for solo dinners; you'll quickly notice that you aren't alone that few other solo diners have chosen this exact restaurant as well.

It offers a 14 course meal which is a massive 'wow'. I'm a tiny person I couldn't get through most of it but in fairness the meals weren't that big.

The place is nice and cosy, small in size but impressive with its dishes. Each meal is unique and has its own flavour.

It's quite expensive since a set menu is served and there is no picking what you want to eat.

Would I try it again? No.

But is it worth a try? Yes.

Is it expensive? I would say so.

Did I enjoy all the meals? Not really but the ones I liked, I really liked.

Did I feel comfortable? I did, I was too curious about the next dish to care about anything else.

So these were my eating alone experiences, I feel like they've made me more independent since I rarely do anything on my own and always prefer company.

However eating alone really is something that opens your mind and makes you that teeny tiny bit braver. I hope you'll take the step, too, cause it's pretty rewarding after it's all done.
