The Merewether Surfhouse is a one-stop-shop for all dining options, located at the scenic
Surfhouse/@-32.9495844,151.7562546,15z/data=!4m2!3m1!1s0x0:0x639f7f1a013e683c?sa=X&ved=2ahUKEwjb58m7o73jAhX273MBHUs2BCEQ_BIwEXoECAwQCA Merewether Beach in Newcastle. Upstairs is the
Surfhouse Restaurant , where you can sit back with a wine and enjoy Modern Australian cuisine with a million-dollar view out to sea. Also upstairs is the
Cocktail Bar with a delicious menu and the same, breath-taking views. If you are looking for a more casual option, however, then head downstairs to the popular
Café and Kiosk with indoor and outdoor seating and takeaway options. Depending on your budget, you really can't go wrong with whichever option you choose!
On a recent visit to Merewether Surfhouse, our family also discovered another section to the Kiosk area downstairs which we hadn't seen before - the
Pizza Kiosk . Everywhere you looked, people were sitting at tables or on the grass, sharing delicious-looking, stretchy, cheesy pizzas. Our stomachs started to grumble at the sight of them, so we made it our mission to track down where to find them...
Underneath the building, at the Kiosk counter, we found a separate
menu for the Pizza Kiosk (which is
open from 11:30am on weekends and from 4pm weekdays). The pizza menu had $10 and $15 pizzas, with a dozen simple and gourmet selections to choose from.
When we ordered, we didn't realise that the "wait time" for the Pizza Kiosk was written on the sign where you pick them up from inside - so ensure you check this sign before you order, so you know how long to expect to wait. On our Saturday lunch-time visit, the sign indicated 20 minutes, however, it took 35 minutes for our buzzer to sound. We were happy to wait and enjoy the view - however you may want to order sooner rather than later if you're starving!
On our visit, one family member chose the Vego Burger from the Kiosk menu (above), whilst the rest of us shared the Ham & Pineapple and Vegetarian Pizza from the
Pizza Kiosk Menu . When we picked them up, we had a peek in the takeaway boxes and we were surprised at the generous size of the pizza, at just $10 each. What a bargain!
Although you can sit nearby in their licenced pizzeria, we found an available bench and table up on the grass, next to the Surfhouse, so we could enjoy our pizza outside with a view. The pizza was worth the wait, with a flavoursome base, stringy cheese and tasty toppings that everyone enjoyed. We were impressed with the flavour and the price, as two pizzas easily fed three hungry people. We also noticed other families and couples sitting around on the grass, enjoying sharing a pizza or two in the sunshine. Whilst there, we also spotted dolphins jumping amongst the surfers and puffs of water spray from whales out to sea.
You really can't pick a better lunch - or location - on a pristine, winter's day in Newcastle. Why don't you check it out for yourself this weekend?
