Pizza Dough Recipe

Next time you're about to call the local pizza joint, why not try your hand at making your own? It's easy, cheap, and really satisfying. Using simple store cupboard basics, you can be flipping pizza dough like a pro in no time.

Ingredients for the dough

2.5 cups plain flour
1 teaspoon salt
1 sachet (7g) instant dried yeast
1 teaspoon white sugar
325ml lukewarm water
2 tablespoons olive oil

Method Makes four pizza bases

Add the sugar and the yeast sachet to the lukewarm water, stir, and allow to sit for 10 minutes until frothy.

Meanwhile, sift the flour and salt into a large mixing bowl. Add the olive oil, and the yeast mixture when ready.

Use a wooden spoon to bring the dough together, adding a little more water or flour if necessary to form a ball.

On a floured work surface, knead the dough for two minutes until it is light and springy.

Place some additional olive oil in your mixing bowl, and place the dough inside. Cover with plastic wrap and place in a warm spot for one hour or until doubled in size.

Punch down the dough to get the air out, and knead again until the dough is smooth and soft.

Pull the dough apart into four equal sized balls, and roll out to a thickness of around 0.5cm. Place on a floured baking tray or pizza stone, and then add your favourite sauces and toppings.

Bake in the oven for 30-40 minutes or until the cheese is melted and the crusts are golden.
