Located along Henley Beach Road in Torrensville,
Pixie and the Hawk offers brunch-style dishes that are a bit different from those offered at cafes serving similar fare. Specials are available for those who desire some variety.
The scrambled eggs in the Chilli in The Name were light and fluffy and the spiciness of the house-made sriracha sauce is suitable for most tastes. Extra heat was provided by slices of chilli. A scattering of grated Parmesan cheese and lime labneh served as a foil to the spiciness of the dish. The toasted golden sesame sourdough on which the eggs were served on was not over-toasted.

Rather than rye bread, their Get Ready to Rrreuben featured a bagel that was not too chewy. The mortadella had a nice firm texture and was fried slightly to give it some crispiness. Beetroot sauerkraut and pickles added a tangy taste to the dish, and the secret sauce and Swiss cheese tied everything together. For vegetarians, the mortadella can be substituted with garlic mushrooms.

Their Sweet or Saucy dish is French Toast, which can be ordered as a sweet or savoury dish. The cinnamon French Toast in the sweet version was cooked just right and had the degree of cinnamon flavour that we expected. The maple-roasted apples retained a bit of bite and was not too sweet. Completing the dish were crunchy Biscoff milk crumbs, grated apple, strawberries and a scoop of vanilla ice cream.

In addition to their main menu, the cafe also offers a selection of pastries for those wanting a quick meal. The base of the Lemon Coconut Slice was not too tough and the lemon curd layer had a delightful lemony flavour. The consistency of the lemon curd was not too watery. Topping the slice was a crispy crumble topping which imparted the coconut flavour to the dish.

While the Raspberry Brownie was gluten-free and suitable for vegans, it was just as tasty as a regular brownie. It was not too dense and had a rich, chocolatey flavour. The slightly tart raspberries mixed throughout helped to cut through the richness of the chocolate.

This cafe had a rustic feel. Diners have the choice of indoor or outdoor seating. It can get busy so arriving early is advised to avoid having to wait for a table.
