Pinocchio is Korean drama, starring Park Shin Hye. She plays the role of Choi In Ha in this drama series who has Pinocchio syndrome. In this drama, someone that has Pinocchio syndrome can't tell lies, otherwise, they will have hiccups that only can be cured by telling the truth. Choi In Ha's daily life runs smoothly, even though she has Pinocchio syndrome until she becomes a reporter and her conditions put her into a lot of "hiccups".
Besides Park Shin Hye, 'Pinocchio' stars Lee Jong Suk, Kim Young Kwang and Lee Yubi. Pinocchio is also about a complicated growing romantic between Choi In Ha and a boy who was adopted by Choi In Ha's grandpa. This boy, who's the same age as Choi In Ha, grew up with her as her adopted uncle. Later on in their life, they found out that they have more than an uncle and niece relationship.
After watching, I am really curious whether the Pinocchio syndrome suffered by Choi In Ha is a genuine syndrome in psychological terms. One thing that I found after searching on the internet that is Pinocchio syndrome does exist but is different from the syndrome in the drama 'Pinocchio'. Pinocchio syndrome is a condition in which a person's body feels stiff like a wooden doll. This condition is a phobia, namely gelatophobia, where the sufferer will feel uncomfortable and afraid when others laugh at him. Another thing that I found is that The term "Pinocchio syndrome" is not a recognised medical condition, but it is sometimes used to describe people who have a tendency to lie or exaggerate.
Is Pinocchio syndrome a made-up syndrome or really exist? It doesn't matter as this drama is really interesting to watch. Park Shin Hye brings her character alive and her interaction with actor Lee Jong Suk is very natural.
Pinocchio can be watched on streaming channels.
