My mother lived untill 95 but looking back she would not have reached this milestone if a certain gynaecological cancer had not been picked up in her 60s and treated in a timely manner that then afforded her such longevity.

So it is important for all women, including mothers and daughters, and their ever supportive sons, husbands and fathers to consider the wonderful work of Cancer Council Victoria which devotes itself to this fight against women's cancers.

One way of doing this, as well as treating yourself at the same time, is through booking an October Pink Ribbon High Tea at the Stamford Plaza Melbourne .

This five star hotel, with its heart in the right place are offering Pink Ribbon High Teas every day at Harry's Restaurant throughout this month.

As Dean Easton Director of Sales and Marketing at the Stamford Plaza Melbourne says: "We too have staff, guests and loved ones who have been affected, so this is a cause very close to our hearts."

The cost is $49 with $5 from each high tea ticket donated to Cancer Council Victoria to support the important fight against such cancers.

This year some 5,500 Victorian women will be diagnosed with breast or gynaecological cancer, so this cause has never seemed a more timely or important issue.

So shuffle your girlfriends together or in our family's case, our mob will include some loving sons and special son-in-laws to indulge in this extra special girly but important high tea.

For our family this is a celebration of coaxing a mother through to 95 as she did recently pass away. Let us hope the future holds many such positive stories of women living through to old age because of inroads into cancer research that save more and more women each year.

As well as supporting Pink Ribbon Day, your high tea at the Stamford Plaza will enable you to enjoy an assortment of meticulously crafted savoury bites, delicate sandwiches, fluffy homemade scones, perfect pastries and pink sweet delights, all served on an elegant three-tiered stand.

Having tasted some of these delights before, I know that you are in for something extra-special. And if you happen to have special dietary requirements (e.g. gluten free), let the Stamford Plaza know your requirements when booking and they will cater for your needs.

Cancer Council Victoria Events Manager Marlene Cirillo said Cancer Council is hoping to raise $2 million through their pink campaigns - Girls' Night In and Pink Ribbon Day.

"Funds raised from Pink Ribbon Day will have a positive impact through services like Cancer Council (13 11 20), which connects those facing a cancer diagnosis with personalised advice from experienced cancer nurses.

"The money raised will also support some of the brightest researchers working on new ways to prevent and treat breast and gynaecological cancers."

So join with your girlfriends or loved ones. Because you don't really need an excuse to enjoy high tea now, do you? Or to help the wonderful work of the Cancer Council Victoria in getting women through to the ripe old age they so richly deserve.
