At short notice a concert has been organised to aid the victims of the South Australian fires. The afternoon into night concert will be held outdoors in Kapunda on Saturday the 19th of December. They could really do with your support.

Recently a devastating scrub fire started at Pinery, north of Mallala in South Australia. It seems the fire started accidently from glass in a rubbish pile near the small village. On a day of extremely high winds and a high temperature, the fire soon spread widely. This is not bush land, but the best cropping region of the State. The fire spread rapidly over a wide area, engulfing many farms with fields of crops and some pockets of scrub land. The fire took the lives of two people and thousands of livestock including pigs, sheep, and chickens. A huge impact of the aftermath, is that many farms were only in the middle of harvest, therefore their annual income has gone. A total of 87 homes, many of them heritage stone farm houses were destroyed. Millions of dollars in value of farm machinery including silos, harvesters, and shedding were also destroyed. Most of the farmers were only about one third the way through harvest, and therefore have lost their annual income. This will cause serious hardship for families and a flow on effect in economic downturn for the area and the State.

This region is a close community, and the locals have rallied their support for the victims by organising this relief concert. All profits raised will go to Uniting Care Wesley and Blazeaid. These organisations are supporting local families affected by the fires.

Local South Australian entertainers have offered to come at very short notice to provide the billing for the concert. There will be a local choir, comedian "The Old Fella", and many local Adelaide bands. The headline acts will be Wes Carr, and the grand finalist of this year's X- Factor, Louise Adams. Originally a Kapunda girl, Louise who is now a farmer girl herself in the Mt Gambier area. She is reportedly very happy to be returning to Kapunda, her hometown, to sing her heart out for the concert goers.

As the holiday season is approaching fast, the concert will be on the last Saturday before Christmas. The concert will be held on the grassed area inside the horse racing track at Kapunda. The concert area will be dry and perhaps dusty, so maybe bring a plastic tarp to put your blanket on. Bring your fold-up chairs, blankets and cushions to get comfortable to enjoy a great evening out under a country sky full of stars. This will be a dog free and no BYO alcohol event. Remember it is a fundraiser so please buy the food and drinks available for purchase.

Travel directions to the event:
Kapunda is 31 kilometres north from the Gawler bypass, take the turn off at signs on the Sturt Highway. If coming from Adelaide travel via the Northern Expressway via Port Wakefield Road.
