At the beginning of August every year, the Pine Rivers Show sets up, lights up and entertains patrons from the Moreton Bay region and beyond for three fun-filled days and nights. Aiming to have something for everyone, the Pine Rivers Show features : baby farm animals, motocross, reptile and circus shows, photography, needlework, cooking, arts and horticulture displays and competition winners, rodeo, rides, live music, sweet and savoury foods, a side-show alley, fireworks and of course, show bags – as well as a multitude of other sights, activities and events to revel in.

This year, the Pine Rivers Show is running from the 2nd to the 4th of August (Friday to Sunday), and will see the return of many favourite acts and performances as well as some interesting new additions.

Friday the 2nd of August: 9am-9pm
Saturday the 3rd of August: 9am-9pm
Sunday the 4th of August: 9am-4pm

Also keeping with show traditions, the Photography, Needlework, Wine-Making, Education, Horticulture, Cooking, Sculpting, Painting, Arts and Crafts competition entries and prize winners will also be on display in their usual designated buildings. As in previous years, select entries amongst these classifications will also be available for purchase.

One of my personal favourites of the Pine Rivers Show is frequenting the (many) petting zoos and animal pavilions. I touch, pet and coo over as many piglets, baby goats, lambs and calves as possible (much to the disdain and frustration of my partner, brothers or whoever I'm with), and I never forget to joke (am I really joking?) and ask if I'm allowed to keep them – though of course, I know that I can't. I like checking out the clothing, jewellery and accessory stalls, and I always take the time to watch the guys of Dreamtime Reptiles enchant the crowd with their knowledge of the snakes of Australia.


As well as the extravaganza of competitions, displays and performances; the Pine Rivers Show wouldn't be complete without the colossal lines and lines of food and beverage stalls (hot chips, fairy floss, dagwood dogs/battered savs, hot dogs, pies, lollipops etc.), show bag pavilions, side-show alley games (with the usual attendants trying to usher you over) and the multitude of rides – from mild and child-friendly to the intense, super-fast, whirlpool-like, throw-around, you'd-better-hope-you-didn't-eat-before-you-got-on kind-of rides. And if all that wasn't enough to tire you out, the fireworks display at the end of both Friday and Saturday nights should be enough to tell you that it's time to be getting home.

Well, there are a number of ways to get yourself to the Pine Rivers Show, located at the Lawnton Showgrounds, 757 Gympie Road, Lawnton.
