The word pinchos, or pintxos, means "to spike", and this concept has quite literally been applied to the miniature pieces of food served at in Leederville. The delicious morsels are a tribute to the snack food of northern Spain, where pinchos are traditionally eaten in bars.

, headed up by chef Justin Bell of Jus Burgers, has turned a small Newcastle Street space into an intimate Spanish-style bar and eatery. From the huge batch of paella being cooked on the street outside the restaurant to the Spanish menu (with English translations, of course) and primarily Spanish drink selection, Pinchos epitomises Spain with just the right touch of Aussie, seen in the great service and well-appointed interior.

With pinchos starting at $1, tapas starting at $6 and mixed boards for one or two people priced at $30, there is something for every budget and taste. Many vegetarian options are available that would please vegos and omnis alike. I couldn't look past a serving of freshly cooked paella for $10 a pop. Although small it made for a satisfying lunch given how much chicken and chorizo was packed into a serving.

Pinchos is open at 11:30am 7 days a week for lunch and stays open right through to dinner. Check out their menu or drop in at 749 Newcastle Street, near the corner of Oxford Street, for a post-work Cava and plate of croquetas.
