A visit to Pine Rivers Heritage Museum is just like travelling back in time. The current exhibition, Pill, Potions and Medical Practice: How we coped with illness in the past, provides an interesting insight into basic survival in times gone by.

The exhibition is currently travelling around Australia, presented by Hurstville City Library, Museum and Gallery and will briefly remain in Brisbane. Anyone with an interest in history or medicine should make an effort to see this collection of wierd and wonderful surgical instruments, including a scary looking dentist's chair and accompanying box full of "tools".

The array of old bottles, painful syringes and boxes of medical items may bring back some unpleasant memories for older visitors. There were quite a few groans and giggles coming from people inspecting the enema exhibit. The exhibition also has information about traditional Aboriginal and Chinese Medical practices.
