Not since
The Rules of Summer has the Spare Parts Puppet Theatre created such a fantastic show for children. The show is set in the childhood bedroom of Shane and Nadia who have returned to their childhood home as adults to sort through their childhood possessions. When they find grandma’s old broken biscuit barrel an argument breaks out between them over which one of them was responsible for breaking it. The siblings unpack all of their beloved childhood toys and use them to re-create their memories of the night when someone broke the biscuit barrel.

I was really blown away by the set design of
Pillow Fight . The stage was designed to resemble a bunk bed in a children’s bedroom. This was an ingenious design because it meant that puppets could be suspended from the top bunk to hang over the bottom bunk. As the siblings reminisce about their childhood, the bed is transformed, becoming whatever they need it to be for their games. The show achieves this with special effects like smoke, coloured lights, shadow, and a stage backdrop.

The puppet design in
Pillow Fight was fantastic. The show begins with two pillows with big googly eyes who climb to the top of the bed and start attacking each other. The children in the audience reacted with whoops of laughter as the pillows threw themselves at each other. There was so much detail in each of the puppets. There was a knight in shining armour, a witch dressed in a pointed hat and sparkly robes, a spaceman with orange hair, and even a bright red football with a big mouth and goofy eyes.
