Ian Kingsford Smith's upcoming exhibition called Pilgrimage will be held at the
Gaffa Gallery from 6 to 17 February 2014.
This exhibition includes eight paintings (oil on wood panel) and fifteen etchings (intaglio) 42 x 32cm.
The central theme of these works is the variety between our lingering need to narrate our lives, the historic role of myth in comprehending the meaning of the mystery and magic of human experiences and the five elements: earth, water, fire, wind and void.
Drawing on insights from relative tradition, experiences have been isolated that have historically been attributed with symbolic meaning by different cultures, such as the 'Warmth of Others' or 'Touch the Ocean'.
A fulltime artist working in Sydney, he has studied with some of New Zealand's leading painters including Colin McCahon, Michael Smither and Toss Woollaston. Some of his previous solo exhibitions at the Global Gallery, have included: Dreams in Captivitity (2013), Australian Stories (2012), Dingoes (2011) and Trees on Paper (2010). He has also featured in group exhibitions in painting and printmaking.
Ian has previously had solo and group exhibitions in Auckland, Dunedin and Palmerston North, New Zealand. His work is in private collections in Australia, Sweden, France, England and New Zealand.
The Ian Kingsford-Smith's Pilgrimage exhibition will be held at Gaffa Gallery from 6 to 17 February 2014. Opened Monday to Friday from 10.00am to 6.00pm and on Saturday from 11.0am to 5.00pm.
