While Federation Square might seem to be the centre of the city hustle and bustle, head down the big stone staircase under the Princes Bridge and down to Federation Wharf along the Yarra River and you'll find Pilgrim.

Set against the waterfront, it's an ideal little hotspot to enjoy the city and its surrounds. Often a popular place for an afternoon drink, Pilgrim's menu is designed to share so it's an ideal location for a social catch up.

You'll find an array of specials as well as the regular menu of sandwiches and shared plates as well as charcuterie and a selection of cheese too!

We tried the special (and rumour has it, it's heading for the permanent menu in the near future) of confit duck and pistachio terrine with pear and date chutney, served with lavoush.

Also ideal for sharing is the charcuterie boards served with a warm crusty baguette. We ordered the sopressa salami served with pickled vegetables (above) as well as the Fior de latte mozzarella, hazelnut dukkah, warm focaccia (below).

The service is friendly, the atmosphere is very Melbourne and the location certainly can't be beat. And for those who fancy learning a bit more about drinks, mixology and more, especially from Australian producers, Pilgrim Bar is launching its new Talk Taste Series starting next Thursday, 18th February.

The first session will feature local Melbourne gin distillery, Four Pillars and will be led by their global ambassador and Sam Ng.

A monthly event, Pilgrim's Talk, Taste sessions will specially pair each tasting session with their signature take on drinking, food and canapés. This series is the first of its kind for Pilgrim Bar as it aims to provide a chance for passionate foodies and drink lovers to connect intimately with local Australian producers.

Tickets are only $15 inclusive of drink tastings and canapes and the first session will be held on Thursday 18th February from 6.30 pm – 7.30pm

Tickets are available online or visit the site for additional upcoming sessions at www.pilgrimbar.com.au/talk-and-taste
