Pig the Elf was written and illustrated by Aaron Blabey and published by Scholastic in 2016. It is the fourth book in Aaron Blabey's bestselling children's picture book series Pig the Pug. It is 24 pages long and suitable for young readers.
The Pig the Pug books follow a simple format that is easy for kids to read. They start with 'Pig was a Pug, and I'm sorry to say…' and end with 'These days it's different…'
What sets Pig the Elf apart from other Pug stories is that it ditches this format and has a different structure altogether. The book is still written in simple, rhyming verses but it starts with, 'Oh Christmas Eve! That most merry of nights!' and then goes from there. The premise of the book is Pig is very excited about Santa coming to deliver presents on Christmas Eve.
The illustrations in Pig the Elf do not disappoint. Pig wears a pair of tight fitting red pyjamas and a Santa hat throughout the book. He is absolutely adorable and his acts of mischief on Christmas Eve will put a smile on your face. For more information about Aaron Blabey and his books check out his website.
