So, it is a **pork festival!

Having been a vegetarian of sorts for many years, I can still totally relate to a pork festival. Even when I was a vegetarian I could not give up my bacon, as it is one of my favourite foods!

Bacon is such a versatile food - you can eat it as a savoury meal with something else, cook with it to give things a good taste and crispy texture, and of course, have it with sweets. Some of the things I eat are bacon and egg pancakes with maple syrup ... so good!

Attention bacon, pork and ham lovers - Public House in Petersham is the bearer of good news.... The PigFest is back!

And on this year's PigFest menu, they have maple bacon delights, and of course, so much more. See more photos at the bottom of this page.

It will be held on Sunday 19th August 2018, and it will be a packed, family-friendly day out.

At the event, there will be the following (and "if this doesn't tempt you, nothing will", as the saying goes!)

  • Meat raffles
  • A delectable one-off menu
  • Some crafty twists from your favourite local breweries

  • PigFest returns after a huge 2017 event, with 2000 people fed in 4 hours, 3 whole pigs consumed, 17 kegs tapped, 528 tinnies cracked, and more than $1000 raised for charity - have I impressed you yet?

2018's menu is set to have you salivating just from looking at the above photos - imagine when you catch the scent on the day! Promoting the day will be a huge selection of carefully curated pig centric dishes. Some of these include:

  • Thick cut bourbon and maple bacon lollipop
  • BBQ glazed porky ribs
  • A selection of sweet treats like maple bacon doughnuts

  • If you can't make it to Public House in Petersham, The Erko will have a selection of the exclusive dishes on offer.

And you can also place your bets on the epic meat tray in the raffle. This will be supporting a fantastic cause, with the proceeds being donated to St Vincent De Paul Night Patrol.

You can also partake of a local lineup of beer from the finest Inner West breweries. These breweries are all set to prepare some special PigFest concoctions.

Breweries who will be there include:

  • Wayward Brewing Co.
  • Batch Brewery, who are paying homage to Marrickville's classic Pork Roll with their unique blend
  • Young Henry's are bringing taps of their Maple Bacon Beer
  • Public House Petersham will also be bringing a pop-up bar to the carpark with a selection of wines and Pirate Life tinnies.

  • All this while local DJ's play a string of your favourite music.

There will be things to do for children as well, including face painting, doughnut on a string eating races and a colouring competition.

You could win a $200 voucher to use at Public House Petersham, and this will be judged by pub mascot and beloved resident cat, Gizmo.

All in all, it will be a day of fun for the whole family, no matter what their ages are. There will also be merchandise for sale including official PigFest bandannas (for the doggies of course), caps and t-shirts.

PigFest starts at 11.00 am on Sunday 19th August and is in the carpark of the Public House Petersham.

Bookings are not required - just turn up on the day.
