The 5th
Piers Festival on
3 April 2016 from 12noon to 7pm is a time to celebrate and enjoy the talent that makes up our Indigenous and multicultural community.
Holding it at the
Princes Pier, 2 Pier street, Port Melbourne is also significant, as historically, it's the entry point that gave birth to multicultural Australia. The diversity of cultures that walked through its gates is what spawned and enriched the fabric that is our society today.
Who better to headline this festival other than legendary singer/songwriter
Archie Roach on the main stage. He'll be joined by amazing performers who will reflect a variety of cultural communities through their performances.
A Celtic rock band, Italian Greek influences, a range of Balkan melodies, a Polynesian dance group, an asian/western garage pop band and much more is just par of the course at this event. Check the
website for more details of the line-up.
The Landing will offer up a collection of exhibitions, activities and performances which have been organised through a collection of active cultural associations.
A curated 'What happened at the Pier' will feature live poetry readings, forums and more inside 'The Gatehouse' on Princes Pier. An exhibition of artefacts and visual moving pictures will speak to you through the artists and Memory Keepers who arrived in Melbourne from Princes Pier.
Arts and craft stalls, cultural games, Melbourne's food trucks, local providers and a range of roving performers will keep you entertained. Immerse yourself and be a part of the Piers Festival. With over 12,000 people attending last year, this event has become a highlight of the multicultural calendar.
