Pier 71 bar e cucina is the latest cafe/restaurant to appear in Altona. It is a welcome addition. It is a family owned business and provides a varied menu, suitable for families, couples and groups wanting a satisfying meal. The menu is mostly Italian with all the favourites including pizzas with generous toppings, large enough to share, and antipasto platters that are also able to be shared. Other dishes on the menu include pastas, risotto, scalopine, seafoods, salads, sweets and the chef's specials which change frequently.
The restaurant is open from 10.00 am until 10.00 pm and caters for functions, private and corporate. The breakfast menu is a treat offering up meals such as Avocado on sourdough with rocket, feta and chilli, quite a start to the day. The Big Breakfast includes 2 eggs on sourdough toast with bacon, chorizo, spinach, grilled tomato and mushrooms - that'll keep you going all day.
The prices are reasonable too. But it is the staff that are the real winner here, they are welcoming and nothing is too much trouble, I almost felt like an old friend the first time I visited.
The highlight of my night was the Limoncello Cheesecake, it made me feel like I was back in Sorrento. It is the ideal place to visit either before or after a relaxing stroll along the beautiful Altona foreshore.
