Picnic Point

Set on the banks of the Maroochy River, Picnic Point it is the ideal spot for boating, fishing, swimming and kayaking and a great place to take the kids.

The boat ramp is situated at the northern end with plenty of parking and a fish cleaning area for the avid fishermen. There are many enjoy the fishing along the shore of the river and seem to catch their fair share of fish. The Pelicans will keep you company as you fish hoping for a little treat.

Picnic Point has many beautiful trees and you can often catch sight of the rainbow lorikeets nesting, also if you arrive around 4pm most days you may be lucky enough to see one of the local ladies feeding them. The birds flock around as soon as she arrives. When I was there she had a flock of children helping to feed them.

Though the beach area is not patrolled it is a safe swimming area for the children, of course adult supervision is still essential.

There are plenty of sitting areas and barbeques dotted along the 600-700m beach front walk with new toilet block having been upgraded recently.

If the kids want to play in the park there is a small play area as you come into Picnic Point Esplanade.

I never tire of the walk along the riverbank as there are always people to meet and plenty to see with the boats, kayaks and Jet Skies heading up and down the river.

Picnic Point is situated just south of the Bradman Avenue Bridge first left down Picnic Point Esplanade.

If you want to know a little history of Picnic Point Park there is a great article on the Sunshine Coast website.

If you want a coffee there is the Picnic Point Bakery, Nok's Thai and the Smashed Crab Fish and Chips within easy walking distance on Duporth Avenue.
