Picnic Island Playground at South Bank Parklands

Located at the southern end of South Bank Parklands, behind the River Quay restaurant precinct, lays Picnic Island Green.


I only recently discovered the Picnic Island playground, opened in 2011 as an alternative to the popular playground near Streets Beach, which is often quite busy and noisy. This small but interesting playground features a combined climbing/sliding structure, swings, spinning saucer, and a sandpit. Children can also play hide and seek in the fantastic fig tree.


The green has heaps of space for a game of football or frisbee, and plenty of shade for picnics.


Picnic Island itself is a small island with a barbecue, reached by crossing a little wooden bridge - perfect for a peaceful and private party while the kids play nearby.
