You're invited to South Bank Parklands' 25th birthday party
What do South Bank Parklands, Bananas in Pyjamas, Super Mario and the JPEG file format have in common? They all celebrate their 25th birthday in 2017. I'm not sure how the others are marking this milestone, but I can tell you that South Bank is holding a picnic with something for the whole family. Are you thinking what I'm thinking B1? I think I am B2. I think you should mark Sunday 8 October on your calendars right now so you don't miss out on any of the free family fun at Picnic in the Parklands.
From 10am to 4pm, South Bank Parklands will be alive with music, food, games, storytelling, roving performers, and so much more. You will even be transported right back to where it all began at World Expo 88 with the butterfly stilt walkers once again making an appearance. Now, there's a blast from the past. Grab a patch of grass, lay out your picnic rug and goodies, and share it all with family and friends, just as Brisbaneites have been doing regularly for twenty-five years at this much-loved community space.
*River Quay Green is home to the highly popular, free Sunday Sessions on the Green and it will also be the live music hub at Picnic in the Parklands. This area is licensed from 10am to 8pm. Pick a patch of lawn and listen to a range of Brisbane's local talent including the Breanna Fielding Trio and Astrid.
* Picnic in the Parklands serendipitously coincides with Brisbane's favourite architectural event - Brisbane Open House. Some tours are already booked out but on the Green Heart Walking and Water Tour you can access the underground plant room and find out what goes on at Rain Bank, the largest stormwater harvesting facility in Australia. These tours are FREE but MUST be booked in advance via the Open House website here.
The Birralee Singers | 1:00-1:30pm St Laurence's College Big Band | 2:15-2:45pm Heilani Polynesian School of Arts | 3:30-4:00pm
* The always popular Brisbane Greeters will be out and about to show you the best of The Parklands and to tell you a little about its features and history. Tours will depart from the South Bank Visitor Information and Booking Centre at 11:30am, 2pm and 3:30pm. Bookings are available, but not required.
