With a heap of writing experience under his belt, "B Walkin" resides in Brisbane and has published his first book.
To help raise awareness and celebrate the work of Cerebral Palsy League, the Picnic in the Park will be held at the Roma Street Parklands, and you are invited.
Said to be the biggest picnic in Brisbane, the Picnic in the Park is expected to attract over 5000 people from all over Queensland. Also at the picnic will be a range of activities that you and your family and friends can get involved in, from amusement rides to arts and crafts. There will be live entertainment throughout the event, featuring the 18-piece Australian Army Band and this year as a special, CPL's very own Cascades band (there will also be a range of local talent on display).
Of course, there will also be a range of activities to keep the kids entertained, including a petting zoo, sand sculptures, train rides, face-painting, clowns, jumping castles and much more. The team at CPL is putting together the finishing touches to this big event, so visit the website for any new additions and to be kept in the loop.
If you are really interested in attending but just can't find the time to head out to the city, why not host your own picnic and raise much-needed funds for CPL? It's quite simple to set up, and can be hosted anywhere, from your own backyard to a local park. All you need is to follow a few simple steps.
First, choose a location that is accessible and that all your family and friends can get to. Second, choose a theme for your picnic. This can include a range of activities, such as egg-and spoon races, outdoor cricket, a beach bbq, or the like. Third, invite your guests. There are three ways to go about this: personal invitations, via email, Facebook or Twitter, or for something a little fancier, you can customise and download printable invitations from the official website.
Fourth, collect donations. This step is vital and can be easier than you think. Be creative: sell raffle tickets, have a lucky dip, it's up to you. And last, but not least, send all money raised to CPL by phone (1800 819 086), by post (Host Your Own Picnic, PO Box 386, Fortitude Valley, Qld 4006), or by EFT (email firstname.lastname@example.org for details).
So why all this festivity and fun? It's all for a good cause – to support CPL and celebrate the kick-off of CPL Awareness Week, which will be running until the 6th of August. So show your support for CPL by heading out to the Picnic in the Park, or even host your own picnic to raise much-needed funds for this good cause. This is a community fun day that everyone can enjoy – regardless of age or ability.
The Picnic in the Park will be on for almost the whole day, so come prepared for a memorable day out. For any additional information, please visit the website.
