If you've ever seen the film
Austenland and wished you too could enjoy a step back in time to the Regency era when Jane Austen was writing her romantic novels, you simply must gather skirts and rush out to . This special event takes place at the Abbey Museum of Art and Archaeology each year, with past years' guests raving about how much fun it is to recreate this genteel time.
Guests are encouraged to dress up in period garb (in fact, if you don't dress up, you're likely to feel quite out of place, as the majority of attendees do wear the Regency costumes) and join the fun and games on offer.
Organisers say, "This year's event will begin with Regency dance workshop, followed by games such as Graces and Siam, Pall-Mall and Shuttlecock. Afternoon Tea (will be) served from 2:15pm… guests to the picnic will sip tea from the finest china (and) indulge in a wide selection of homemade Regency treats"
Gates will open at the Abbey Museum of Art and Archaeology, which will be transformed into a picturesque Regency paradise for the day, from 11.30am. You can bring your own picnic lunch or pre-purchase a picnic hamper when booking your tickets.
You can also try your hand at archery from 1pm onwards and the day will conclude with the Noble Militia giving a military display just prior to 4pm.
Monies raised at the event will go toward the building of an art gallery 'to house the fabulous Old Masters and Icons in the Museum collection.' So why not grab your own Mr Darcey and come along?
